I found your website very interesting.  My grandmother was Cleophas Mary Loggie.  My father, Cleophas' son, and I visited the Miramichi in 1996 and 2000.  We had a wonderful time and met lots of great people.  George and Stephanie Kingston, Monica and Bill Vickers and Irene Loggie were wonderful hosts and hostesses.  We can't wait to return. We are located 20 miles west of Boston.

Hello Fred.  I am visiting my parents here in Florida and my father (Bill) is inquisitive as to the health of your father.  Nice of you to say hello at the Gill Net Lodge.  Two more days in the sun...my mother continues to walk several miles per day and I would do a poor job keeping up with her.  Dad continues his "yard sailing" (garage sale visits) and continues to be a man on the move.

Hi everyone,

Mom & Dad as well as brother Ken have left to go to Ear Falls Ontario to help Jennifer and Mark out. Jennifer fell and broke her elbow earlier this week.  She needs to have surgery in Thunder Bay (7 hours away) so she and Mark have had to leave the baby and Tyler with neighbours until Grandma, Grandfather, and Uncle Ken arrive.  It is quite a trek from her to there and quite traumatic on the children.  Please remember them all in your prayers.

Howdy. Mary Ellen, I hope all goes well with your families journeys and keep us posted on the result. March additionally has its share of snow and hope it doesn't add to problems at hand.

New Yorker's really are into St. Paddy's Day. Biggest parade you ever saw in your life!

I have booked an airline ticket for black salmon fishing on the Miramichi in late April. Can hardly wait. Folks are expecting Will from the Great White North down in Florida today and Mother says he is visiting for two weeks. That is a great break when you are coming from -40 in Yellowknife. Enjoy brother!

Hi all,

I spoke with Mom and Jennifer on Saturday.  It took MOm, Dad and Ken a few days to get to Ear Falls.  At one point they had to stop (Long Lac) because they could only see 2 feet in front of them.  I think this was a good thing as Mom was into primary parent role as soon as her feet hit the driveway at Mark's.  Little John was unsure about Grandma and Grandfather, and Tyler tried his best to make the introductions.  It didn't take long until they all were comfortable.

Jennifer had 2 steel plates inserted into her arm and is in a 1/2 cast around her elbow.  She and Mark arrived back in Ear Falls on Friday (I think).  She sounded quite good on the phone.  Dad, Mark & Ken were visiting the mill when I called, so I did not get a chance to talk with them.

I am not sure what the plan is for the return.  I am thinking it will be impossible for Jennifer to handle the baby without another pair of arms, so Mom (at least) may stay for several weeks.

I will keep you posted as I find out more. Take Care....ME

Message From George L Kingston (redoak@nbnet.nb.ca)

Hi To All:   The recent good wishes from Frederick James Quinn for St Patrick's Day prompted me to post something on the Gill net.  I wanted to thank him -  I was wondering if some of you know how closely each of you are related to Fred.

As you may have gathered by now Fred, I contribute very little to the Gill net, but read it religiously.  John Vickers is the one who pulls the living descendants and relatives of Sam & Lillian Kingston together via the Gill Net.  Thank you Millions for the Humengeous job you are doing John.  Welcome Fred as a first cousin once removed to Lillian's Children. (Fred as a high school teacher you must by now know Webster has nothing on me - I have my own way of spelling and doubt if Webster ever heard of humengeous).

Lillian (Loggie) Kingston had a sister Cleophus Mary Loggie
Cleophus Mary married William A Quinn
They had a son Frederick James Quinn
Frederick James Quinn married Rita Finn Hayes
They had a son Frederick James Quinn, Jr (This is the Fred who sent the good wishes)
Fred is a 1st Cousin once removed to John Vickers's mother
Monica (Kingston) Vickers and 2nd Cousin to John Vickers.
Frederick James Quinn Jr married Marie Ann O'Brien.

So to Lillian (Fred's Grand Aunt) and Cleophus Mary (Fred's Grand mother)
- we Lillian's children are Fred's first cousins once removed
 Lillian's grand children are Fred's 2nd cousins

If you are wondering who the first cousins of Fred's are:-
They would not be any Loggie or Kingston first cousins in the relationships stated above as Lillian's daughters and sons are first cousins to Cleophus Mary's Children.  Cleophus Mary is Fred's Grand Mother.  The once removed  expression is correct but frequently incorrectly called first cousin or second cousin.

Fred, Please pass on our good wishes to your Dad, who will be 91 on  August 6th. (One of that great breed of milkman who delivered milk at ungodly  hours early in the morning in Boston).  How about coming to the "Dear Old Miramichi" for the birthday celebration.  Bring the whole family, let us  know and we will put the bean pot on the stove in time.  I think Bill Vickers (John's Father) still has an in at the Northumberland Milk  Cooperative and will supply at least the milk for tea.  Irene Loggie will supply at least a pie.

GOD love ya all
George

Welcome Fred!

I'm one of Lillian Logie Kingston's grandchildren (daughter of Anne Marie Kingston and Joseph Weissler) so I guess that makes me your 2nd cousin.  Welcome to the Gill Net and I hope you'll stop by often!

I, also, would like to applaud John Vickers on the tremendous job he does with the Gill Net!  Great to hear from you Uncle George and thanks for your explanation of the family tree.

Mary W.

You people are very kind!  "Humengeous" job sounds pretty scholarly to me..I am unsure as to whether my efforts are worthy of such a lofty title!  :)  John V

What an honor to be at the top of the list.  I really do not know how it happened.  Not bad for a non-descendant 2nd. cousin but, certainly, an honored guest.

John Vickers, you do an excellent job with this site.  It really is a great idea.

George Kingston and Bill Vickers, my father is doing quite well.  He loves sports and politics and it has been a great year for both.  The Patriots winning the Super Bowl, the Bruins and Celtics having great seasons, UConn going to the final four in the NCAA Tournament and the Red Sox having a great Spring Taining Season, hope it continues for them.

This year we are having state and local elections and Massachusetts seems to have a lot of political shenanigans, and they have already started.  Elections are not until November.

George, thank you, for my excellent introduction, you were certainly very thorough.

The comments I have received were very special and they make me feel quite welcome.

God Bless To All, Fred Quinn Jr.

A Happy Easter Sunday!

I cooked a major Easter Dinner for six last evening...I think it was the most exhausting experience of my life..:) You forget what cooking is when you usually cook for yourself.  It was a hit - that's the important part I guess.

Aunt Patty it will be great to see you on the Miramichi when I visit!  (She has accepted an invitation to join me for eggs and coffee at the Douglastown Mall -  we had did this a couple of springs ago when we had both been home in early May.)

Robins are singing, days are warmer - we have gotten out of winter here with a mere two sprinkles of snow that never stayed on the ground.  Friends in Victoria phoned to say they have mowed their lawn twice already.  The grass never dies there and I miss the colours - here everything is brown and dead - not much sign of life yet.

Happy Eating!

Hi everyone,

Well, we are about to reach a significant milestone in my little family. Rebecca makes her first communion this weekend. She is very excited -- not about the event, but about the new dress she gets to wear. ha! A few weeks back she made her first confession and was so scared, I had to go in with her. The priest tried diplomatically to get me to leave, but I played dumb. I can still remember what a traumatic experience those confessions were when I was little. Perhaps that is why I haven't been faithful in that regard since I became an adult.

I hope all is well with everyone. It snowed here last night. UGH!! We start camping in 3 weeks, so it better warm up soon. Bye for now.....ME

Hello All From Monica's birthday party at Uncle George's,

Sitting here upstairs on George's computer with Aunt Patty. We have just finished a fantastic meal prepared by (primarily I think) by Aunt Stephanie. On the menu list was beautiful sliced ham, homemade meatballs (sooo good), Aunt Carmel's rolls, salad, etc. Everything topped off by a big birthday cake and song sung to both Monica and George.

On the visitors list we have Carmel, Uncle Billy and Lorraine, Alley and Eleanor, Irene Loggie and Eleanor Kelly (a cousin of my mother's), Mary & Ed, Kevin and Ann and their daughter Laura. The tea and coffee are now being poured and the cake has been eaten. Would have been great to have more of the gang around.

Snowed here all day. You would think winter was going backwards. No fish yet. Poor mee, says Patty for me to say.
Eh Tom. How's it goin'?

Cheers,

John and Patty on the Mighty Miramichi
