Hi everyone,

It is above zero today and I am beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel of winter.  I started walking at 6:00am on Monday morning outside rather than the treadmill and that has improved my disposition 100%.

We took the girls to Moncton on the weekend so they could stay a couple of nights in a kid suite, swim in the pool, and go to Crystal Palace amusement park.  They had a great time until Rebecca woke up Sunday morning complaining of difficulty breathing. We are dealing with whooping cough in our region, so I took her right over to out patients.  We should know in another day if it is whooping cough (I don't think it is), but are treating her anyway.  Ah, the joys :)

How are you spending your March break?

Hi, here in the west -- March break in Calgary will occur in April.  Was +10 on Saturday and woke up to 2 inches snow and -12. Winter will last until sometime in May.  We get the most snow in March and April.

I'm doing some work with a dot com  www.PeerFlix.com

It's an online DVD movie trading site for now, but will include a renting service in about six months.  If you watch a lot of DVD movies, this is the site for you.  A similar company in the US has sales of about US$ 500 million a year from almost nothing three years ago.

              Wow.

I just saw that a family member of yours was named Christine Elizabeth Stephanie Seng. I thought this was very interesting, and wondered if there was any relation! Feel free to e-mail me!

I did not realize that I e-mailed you all before.  John V., thank you very much for the research you had done for me last December by calling your Aunt Stephanie.
I really do not know too much about my father's side of the family.  I live in Philaelphia, Pa USA.  If we are in some way related, it is very nice to meet all of you! Have a great evening!

Hi Stephanie in Philaelphia

I saw on your email on our Family Gill Net - I am Stephanie Elizabeth Seng (Kingston) .   My Father was Dr. Magnus Ignatz Seng from San Antonio - He may have had some relatives in Philadelphia - I think he may have interned there but came to Canada and was Medical Officer with a company outside Montreal - eventually he was at the Royal Victoria Hospital where he trained as an Urolgist.  We would be happy to hear from you. We have quite a bit of information on his family.  Our email address is redoak@nbnet.nb.ca

Message from Cathy Byberg at dave_cap@sympatico.ca:

Hi everyone!

Greetings from a long-time lurker, and not-oft poster.  Dave and I are about to start a week-long March Break by laying flooring in our house (oh joy...) and hoping that clients do not call.  The weather is struggling to become spring in mid-western Ontario, and no signs of robins yet. (though a flock of Canada geese did Vee overhead this morning as we ate breakfast!!!)  Soon, the babies will be floating on the pond, much to the delight of our Jack Russell terrier (who is 14, and far too old to be chasing geese - but like any good dog, he hasn't figured that out yet).

All's well in the Byberg clan, and we're especially excited about Annie's wedding later this year.  Her sweetie Dave is a really nice guy and has family approval all around (and you know how important THAT is!!)

Last weekend, our cousin Robert Byberg was married, and instead of hiring a DJ, he wisely arranged his guest list as a family reunion, and we all spent the evening - talking until we were hoarse.  What a great time, and I went home thinking how important those get-togethers are.  What amazes me, is how we can approach people we are related to, but barely know, and start up intimate conversations right away!  Having huge families is wonderful (though I still don't know how Sam and Lillian managed - I'm busy enough with 2 little ones who aren't so little anymore).

Anyway, hope everyone is hale and hearty!  Take care!

Cathy

Nice to hear from you Cathy!  I took a couple of photo's this afternoon outside my condo here in Victoria and spring has definitely sprung in these parts.  John V

From Burnt Church to the Czech Republic
WebPosted Mar 15 2004 07:16 AM EST

MONCTON  —  An RCMP officer who served as a negotiator in the lobster dispute at Burnt Church will use that experience to help solve a social problem in the Czech Republic.

Police departments in the European country have asked Chief Superintendent Kevin Vickers to help them deal with conflicts involving the Roma minority.  Vickers says problems affecting the Roma, also known as "gypsies" are similar to those of Canada's native community.  "It's very congruent to our situation in Canada.  The Roma, though a minority in the population, are over-represented in the judicial system.  They face serious social problems throughout the Czech Republic, leading to their over-representation in the judicial process, including incarceration."  Vickers says many police officers in the Czech Republic were trained under the former communist regime.  He says they're now making an effort to change from the strict methods of the past and adopt a more community based approach to law enforcement.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery to Stephen Kingston. I understand he recently had back surgery.  My mother tells me it sounds like the same surgery my father had when he was Stephen's age.  I hope evreything is going well.
